Strength, resilience and a big heart, are some of the traits that distinguish the 30 helmsmen of the 9th Sacred Mayan Journey, who for six months have trained physically and mentally to 350 oarsmen, who will guide on the journey from Pole (Xcaret) to Kuzamil (Cozumel), to receive the sacred message of goddess Ixchel. Come on May 22nd and May 23th to celebrate with them this mythical tradition at Xcaret Park! The Sacred Mayan Journey is a ritual that dates from 1250 – 1519 AD period, in which the knowledge of navigation and maritime trade routes of the ancient Maya, are combined. The central character of this ritual is Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of the moon, tides, fertility, childbirth and pregnancy, for whom they crossed the sea to bring offerings and receive the divine message for their communities.
