Area Information

Holbox is located to the northwest of Cancun and is separated from the coast by a shallow lagoon which hosts thousands of exotic birds like flamingoes, pelicans as well as rare species.

Streets of Holbox are made of white sand, and there most common means of transportation are golf carts. Holbox is still considered as a paradise tourist destination thanks to the very few island visitors.

Airport

The nearest airport to Chiquilá (the harbor where the ferries to Holbox Island are ) is the Cancun’s International Airport.

There are several options to reach Chiquila’ and Holbox island From Cancun.

Private transfer

Our new 24/7 all inclusive transfer service (ground and water) from the Cancún’s International Airport straight to your room! A minimum of 2 guests is required. Our chauffeur will be waiting for you at the arrival airport terminal and after approximately 2 hours drive in a comfortable air conditioned car, you will reach the Chiquilá harbor, were your ferry will be waiting for you. 30 minutes later, a golf-cart taxi will drop you off directly at the hotel. The cost is U$D 75 per person (min 2 people) and should you decide to get a private speedboat instead of the ferry the price per person will be U$D 99 (min. 2 people).

Car

Take the free road Cancún-Merida. After 80 km you'll arrive at an exit called “El Ideal” where you will have to turn right. After about 70 km, you'll arrive to the small harbor of Chiquilá where you can cross to Holbox.

Bus

There are very comfortable buses at 8:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 13:40pm from cancun ADO Terminal. It takes about 3 ½ hours to arrive.

You can contact one of the two companies offering the service: Aerosaab to request prices and timetables. The flight takes about 20 min.

It takes 30 minutes boat ride to cross the lagoon.

From Playa del Carmen there is a shortcut in Puerto Morelos (Ruta de los Cenotes) that takes you straight to Leona Vicario (28 KMS) and from there you can get into the Cancun – Merida Libre (free toll) until you reach the village of “Valladolid Nuevo and turn right at the “ Holbox patrimonio de la Humanidad” sign. From Valladolid follow the road till you get into the Coba-Chiquila’ road and turn right direction ‘Kantunilkin”. From here, after approx. 70 kms you will reach Chiquila’ where you can park your car in any of the parkings nearby the main roundabout and get the ferry to Holbox island.
